Poetry comes from the Greek “ποίησις“, poiesis, making or creating.

Ouroboros is a poetry and art journal that will showcase new, emerging and established poets who are passionate about art and craft. We are interested in vivid, modern poems that impact the reader through powerful language. Poems that change our perceptions.

So where does Ouroboros fit in? The snake swallowing its tail symbolises infinity; to the alchemist, this represented the circular nature of his work, the union of opposites, the conscious and unconscious mind. And like the ouroboros, language is infinite, meaning endlessly deferred. We’ve adopted the symbol to acknowledge this. We also want to acknowledge that poets and artists are like the alchemist, striving to spin ideas and images into gold.

‘I turned silences and nights into words. What was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.’ Rimbaud, Alchemy of the Word
